Historically, the conferences have focused on HIV diagnostic testing in laboratories, public health programs and clinical practice, though the scope expanded with the 2019 conference to include STI and viral hepatitis testing. The goals of the conference were to foster the development and use of new testing technology in the United States to improve testing practices. The conference offered an opportunity for attendees to share data and become familiar with test performance, best practices, implementation of testing algorithms, quality assurance, and the application of newer testing technology in a variety of settings. Attendees include, but are not limited to, public health officials, clinicians, laboratorians, HIV/STI/viral hepatitis testing program managers, surveillance coordinators, and diagnostic industry representatives. The 2022 Advancing HIV, STI and Viral Hepatitis Testing Conference offered a diverse array of sessions and opportunities in a virtual format.
